“The Insult” (Case No. 23), a drama starring Kamal al-Basha, Camille Salameh and Rita Hayek, previewed at the Venice Film Festival, winning al-Basha the esteemed Volpi Cup for Best Actor.
“The Insult” tells for story of Toni, a Lebanese Christian, and Yasser, a Palestinian refugee, facing each other in court. From secret wounds to traumatic revelations, the media circus surrounding the case puts Lebanon through a social explosion, forcing Toni and Yasser to reconsider their lives and prejudices.
The film has been receiving international acclaim, being only the second Arabic film ever to win an award at the Venice Film Festival. It was also selected as the Lebanese entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards
