Readers of Lebanon’s daily French newspaper L’Orient Le Jour crown the northern village as their preferred spot.

With the help of reports and videos highlighting the best things about each place, voters got to pick from ten villages across the country including Akkar el Atika, Dhour Choueir, Douma, Ehden, Hammana, Jezzine, Kfardebiane, Rashaya al-Wadi, Sarafand and Yammouneh. Nearly 122,000 people voted, naming Akkar el Atika as the winner.

The village in north Lebanon is popular due to its scenery and hilly topography. It is very rich in water, due to its proximity to the Qammouha (a plateau above Akkar housing a large forest and constituting a veritable water tower). It subsequently boasts a number of springs and waterfalls. The village is also rich in historical relics, many deriving from the Mamluk period.
