As USAID’s Trade and Investment Facilitation (TIF) project is working to raise the profile of the district and improve its tourism offering, we engage in a one-of-a-kind experience in Deir El Ahmar.

The Buggies of Deir El Ahmar

Deir El Ahmar is known for its beautiful scenery and warm hospitality. However, there are parts of the Bekaa Mountains that are nearly impossible to reach without a four-wheel drive or buggy. This is where the locally made buggies come in handy. Crafted by skilled artisans from the town, the buggies are not only a means of transportation but also a symbol of the resourcefulness and creativity of the people of Deir El Ahmar. They are sturdy, reliable and well equipped to tackle the challenging terrain of Bekaa.

A Day in the Bekaa Mountains

The DMO of Deir El Ahmar has taken the initiative to promote this unique experience by utilizing these buggies to take tourists on unforgettable journeys. These excursions offer an opportunity to explore the hidden gems of Bekaa. Some of the popular destinations include:

Ooyoun Orghoch: The pristine natural spring of Ooyoun Orghoch is a tranquil place to relax and have lunch while enjoying the beauty of nature.

Monastery of Saint Joseph in Ainata: This ancient monastery provides a glimpse into the rich history of the area and its spiritual heritage.

Ainata – Mamlakit El Lezab and Wadi El Khel: Explore the ruins of Mamlakit El Lezab and the picturesque Wadi El Khel, where you can appreciate the timeless beauty of the region.

El Aouja: This abandoned town features a charming old church that still stands tall and offers a glimpse into the past.

Kornet El Sawda: As the highest point in the Middle East, Kornet El Sawda offers breathtaking panoramic views of the entire Bekaa Valley.
