Comprising 82 villages, the Jbeil District encompasses the rich tapestry of history and natural beauty that Lebanon has to offer. As USAID’s Trade and Investment Facilitation (TIF) project is working to raise the profile of the region and enhance its tourism offerings, we put Jbeil in the spotlight.

Jbeil is a place where the past mingles seamlessly with the present. Here, the echoes of ancient civilizations resonate through iconic landmarks like the revered Monastery of Mar Charbel, the timeless Citadel, the breathtaking Afqa waterfall and the enchanting Laklouk.

Yet, Jbeil is more than its well-known landmarks; it’s a treasure trove of hidden gems waiting to be uncovered. From the historic Machnaqa to the serene Yanouh, the captivating Nahr Ibrahim to the charming Grottos of Akoura, Rweiss, Mbaaj and Jbeil, each site tells a unique story of a district steeped in history.

Hidden gems like the Maroun Aboud Museum, Old Yatoun and Mayfouk El Edtara await intrepid explorers looking beyond the beaten path.

Why Jbeil?

Jbeil beckons travelers for various reasons. Its rich history and archaeological treasures make it a year-round destination. Winter brings the promise of skiing on Laklouk’s slopes, while summer offers pristine beaches, camping, and snowshoeing adventures.

Culinary enthusiasts can savor a variety of local specialties, from the aromatic arak to the garlic-infused maacroun b toum.

Accommodation

Jbeil offers a diverse range of accommodations, including 20 hotels, 15 guesthouses and 10 campsites. Events like the International Festival of Byblos during the summer and the festivals of its charming villages add to the vibrant cultural scene.

Crafts and eco initiatives

Jbeil boasts a thriving craft scene, from mosaic art and sculpting workshops in Ehmej to sculpting in Jaj and fossil exploration in Jbeil. The district is also home to several eco initiatives, including Arz Ehmej, Mehmiyet Jeij, Akoura, Dichar and Mehmiye Bahriye.
