When it comes to exploring Lebanon’s hidden treasures, Bcharreh stands out. As USAID’s Trade and Investment Facilitation (TIF) project is working to raise the profile of the district and improve its tourism offering, we reveal some of the highlights of Bcharreh.
Bcharreh is a destination steeped in history. Known for its breathtaking natural landscapes and cherished for its welcoming locals, the district is home to several iconic sites, each with its own story to tell.
At the heart of Bcharreh lies the Qadisha Valley, a natural masterpiece often referred to as the Holy Valley. Additionally, the Cedars of God stand tall as a living testament to the district’s ecological significance, boasting the majestic Cedrus lebani, a symbol deeply rooted in both history and natural splendor.
As visitors traverse the winding paths of Bcharreh, they discover not only the echoes of ancient civilizations but also the warm embrace of a community proud of its heritage. Bcharreh’s Top Landmarks:
- Qadisha Valley: In addition to its historical and spiritual significance, the Qadisha Valley also presents an ideal setting for those who enjoy outdoor activities.
- Gibran Khalil Gibran Museum: the district proudly claims the renowned writer and philosopher as one of its own. The monastery turned into a museum in 1975 by the Gibran National Committee, adding a new wing and connecting floors for Gibran’s works.
- The Cedars of God: this unique cedar forest transports visitors to a mystical realm.
- Bkaakafra – Village of Saint Charbel: the birthplace of Saint Charbel, a beloved figure in the Maronite Church. It is perched on the highest hill, offers a haven of peace with deep Christian roots, historic sites, and scenic beauty.
- Mount of Saint Elias Hadchit: offering panoramic views of the region’s stunning landscapes.
- Qadisha Grotto: a natural wonder that adds to the region’s appeal.
- Qornet el Sawda: the highest peak in Lebanon, offering breathtaking panoramic views.
- Maronite Patriarchate at Dimane: a symbol of the district’s spiritual significance.
- Cedar Forest of Hadath el Jebbeh: an extension of the district’s beautiful cedar groves.
- Saint Simon Grotto at Bkerkacha: a peaceful sanctuary for reflection.
- Mar Challita Monastery at Qnat: a place of solace and spirituality.
- Three Wineries at Qnat, Bet Monzer and Qnaywer: for wine connoisseurs seeking exquisite local flavors.
- Saint Simon Cross at Hasroun: This towering cross, perched on a hilltop, serves as a symbol of faith and the panoramic view from this vantage point is truly breathtaking.
- Old Cemetery known as the Phoenician cemetery, in Bcharreh: a glimpse into the area’s ancient history, with a trail that may lead you to the Qadisha Grotto

Visitors can explore Bcharreh’s attractions without booking in advance. The Federation of Municipalities manages tourist-related information, and local guides are readily available to provide insights into the region’s treasures.
Wineries, guesthouses and more
Bcharreh boasts three wineries—Qnat Winery, Mersel Wine and Mont d’almaz. For those who appreciate craft beverages, cider breweries in Kafra and Cideria in Bcharreh are also worth a visit.
Accommodation options are abundant, including around 60 alternative lodges, hostels, chalets, guesthouses, monasteries, campsites and furnished apartments, alongside 20 hotels, offering diverse choices for all travelers.
Festivals and events
Bcharreh is alive with events that celebrate its culture and natural beauty, including the Cedars Annual Festival, Hasroun Flower Festival, Saint Sharbel’s festival, and Apple Souks in many villages. Saint Charbel’s Day is a highlight for spiritual travelers. Cedarzing, Qadisha adventure club, both outdoor activity organizers specializing in eco-tourism, adds to the list of exciting options.
