Under the slogan “Hike it. Protect it,” the Lebanese Mountain Trail Association (LMTA) has relaunched its 30-day Thru-Walk across the country.

For the past 11 years, the LMTA has been working rigorously to promote and support sustainable rural tourism. In a call to preserve Lebanon’s longest hiking trail and its biodiversity as well as the heritage of the mountains from poorly planned development, the LMTA organizes an annual hike across the 470km trail of the LMT, extending from Andqet Akkar to Marjayoun.

There are three teams participating in this year’s event, which kicked off on 30 March. The “Hedgehog” team is hiking north to south, while the “Porcupine” and the “Spiny Mouse” teams are doing the reverse. A total of 29 hikers from countries including Canada, the US and France are completing the full hike and more than 235 participants are doing parts of the trail.

Hikers still have time to join the teams for sectional hikes. For more information, visit lebanontrail.org.
