Uniting for Hope: Cancer Charities Making a Difference in Lebanon

by LBTAdmin

February 4 marks World Cancer Day (WCD), a global initiative dedicated to raising awareness and improving access to care for those affected by cancer. In Lebanon, several charities work tirelessly to support patients and their families, offering medical aid, psychological support and community-driven initiatives. We take a look at some of the key organizations making a difference in the fight against cancer.

Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL)

As one of Lebanon’s most prominent cancer charities, the Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL) has been offering free treatment to children battling cancer since 2002. Affiliated with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the U.S., CCCL provides cutting-edge care with a survival rate exceeding 80%. The center relies entirely on donations to ensure that no child is left untreated, following the motto: “Saving lives, one child at a time.”

CHANCE (Children Against Cancer)

Established in 2002, CHANCE is a non-profit organization dedicated to funding treatment for children with cancer and severe blood disorders. The foundation collaborates with hospitals across Lebanon to cover medical expenses and ensure that every child receives the care they need, regardless of financial ability. CHANCE also provides psychosocial support for families navigating the challenges of childhood cancer.

Lebanese Breast Cancer Foundation (LBCF)

Breast cancer remains one of the most prevalent cancers among Lebanese women, and the Lebanese Breast Cancer Foundation (LBCF) plays a crucial role in education, early detection, and patient support. In partnership with the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC), LBCF provides free mammograms, awareness campaigns and psychological assistance to women undergoing treatment. Their advocacy efforts aim to reduce stigma and promote life-saving early detection.

Barbara Nassar Association for Cancer Patient Support

Dedicated to adult cancer patients, the Barbara Nassar Association provides much-needed support for individuals battling the disease. The organization focuses on offering financial aid for medication, raising awareness and advocating for better access to healthcare. By highlighting the struggles of adult cancer patients, the foundation ensures that no one fights alone.

Cancer Support Fund

The Cancer Support Fund is an initiative launched in collaboration with the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) to provide financial assistance to adult cancer patients who cannot afford treatment. The fund ensures access to life-saving therapies, covering costs related to chemotherapy, radiotherapy and essential medications. It also offers psychosocial support to help patients navigate their cancer journey with hope and resilience.

SANAD Hospice Lebanon

For patients facing terminal cancer, SANAD Hospice Lebanon provides palliative care services to ensure comfort and dignity in their final days. The organization offers in-home medical assistance, pain management and emotional support for both patients and their families. SANAD’s compassionate approach helps individuals experience a sense of peace while surrounded by their loved ones.

Balsam

Balsam – Lebanese Center for Palliative Care is dedicated to improving the quality of life for patients with serious illnesses, including cancer. The organization provides comprehensive palliative care services, including pain relief, emotional support and guidance for families. By emphasizing dignity and comfort, Balsam helps patients live as fully as possible despite their illness.

How you can help

Cancer charities in Lebanon rely heavily on community support, whether through donations, volunteering or fundraising efforts. On this World Cancer Day, consider contributing to these vital organizations by donating, participating in awareness campaigns or simply spreading the word about their mission.

By supporting these organizations, we can work together to provide hope, treatment and a brighter future for those affected by cancer in Lebanon.
