Mona Trad Dabaji, Le Paradis Perdu
Painting has always been a commitment for me, beyond artistic expression, aesthetics, a common idea, like a hyphen that connects all my work: Women, Heritage. A simple reason: my attachment to this little martyred country, to its pathetic beauty, to its unreal survival.
And an unreasonable need to find my place there, to reconcile myself with the demons of the past and to see the future in a better light. Crazy expectations? But what are we really without our dreams, without this little ray of sunshine which in the morning makes us feel that we could conquer the world!!
"A story of women and cats, a feline universe where women and cats languish in the same pleasures, enjoy the same benefits. A ray of sunshine, the gentle caress of the wind, the warmth of the interiors of traditional houses, curtains, tapestries , tiles. If there are places where you want to snuggle up, the cat is already there! Memories of houses with flower gardens, exquisite scents. Floors with geometric patterns so fresh that you feel want to lie down there; on the ground like a cat. The scattered memories of a sweet childhood, of a blooming youth, of a lost paradise, and the war that comes to undo all that! Of these demolished houses, from these shattered lives, I kept doors and windows that I was able to repaint and integrate into new interiors. And then there were these floors and their little stories; stories of hopscotch we drew on them!
And the game of knucklebones sitting cross-legged on the floor. It's funny how things stay in our memories, and it's terrible how it hurts when we've lost them, and we're digging into our memories to find them. Beyond the patterns of these tiles; all the steps that have trodden them, all those lost lives, which remain forever linked to the sweet memories of childhood."
