Beirut Chants Festival 2023 Guy Manoukian
Lebanese-Armenian musician, composer, and pianist Guy Manoukian has been an influential figure in the music scene, both locally and internationally, for the past three decades. His remarkable career spans collaborations with renowned artists in the US, showcasing a fusion of oriental melodies and contemporary arrangements that have captivated audiences worldwide.
Starting piano at age four and mentored by exceptional classical music teachers, Guy made his television debut at six and performed at the Presidential Palace by age seven. His journey into music composition began at a young age, winning his first competition at eight.
While attending elementary school, Guy enrolled in a music school, participating in concerts. Initially aspiring to become a professional basketball player, his passion for music led him to perform his first solo concert at 16, unexpectedly drawing over a thousand attendees. This success affirmed his devotion to music as his true vocation. Unbeknownst to him, he would later become the Middle East's inaugural artist endorsed by Yamaha pianos and their brand ambassador, as well as representing global brands like Maserati.
In 1997, in his early twenties, Guy Manoukian's career took off with performances at Jeita Grotto followed by two sold-out concerts at the UNESCO Palace. His musical turning point emerged when he began blending Arabic influences with modern contemporary arrangements, attributing the distinctiveness of his music to his Armenian heritage. He describes his music as modern in arrangement yet classical in essence, emphasizing that his studio albums lean towards a club-oriented vibe while his live performances cater to diverse audiences.
Throughout his career, Guy has earned numerous awards, cherishing accolades like the Armenian Music Award for Best Dance Album in Los Angeles and the Best Arabic Tune of the Year Award for "Harem" in Lebanon. He continues to collaborate with top pop acts, recording with artists like Wyclef Jean, 50 Cent, French rapper Diams, Raul Di Blasio, and the Gipsy Kings.
With global performances from Chile to Sydney, Guy Manoukian's schedule remains packed. Notably, he performed sold-out concerts at prestigious venues like the Greek National Opera (The Stavros Niarchos) and the Dubai Opera. His involvement in creating the world-renowned The Theater in Dubai in 2021 further underscores his influence and contributions to the music industry.
