Foundation and vision

In 2005, the Massoud family purchased several plots of land in this storied region, laying the foundation for what would become Atibaia Winery. The winery itself is housed in a charming 17th-century residence, offering breathtaking views of Batroun. Intriguingly, the area has become the heart of small-scale, artisanal winemaking in Lebanon, home to over a dozen boutique wineries.

Unique terroir and artisanal methods

Atibaia’s vineyards were among the first to be planted in Batroun in modern times. Spanning six hectares across four distinct parcels, these vineyards benefit from varying soil compositions and exposures. Located at altitudes ranging from 400 to 600 meters, the vineyards thrive in fertile soils that imbue the grapes with unique characteristics, resulting in exceptional wines.

Despite its growth, Atibaia remains committed to producing wine in small quantities. The winery produces one red and one white wine per year, embracing artisanal methods that respect the terroir. In 2021, Atibaia expanded its offerings to include its first rosé wine and limited-edition monocépage wines, showcasing single grape varieties such as Malbec, Petit Verdot and Syrah.

Growth and success

The small scale of Atibaia Winery allows for meticulous, hands-on work, often carried out by family members and friends. This dedication to quality has paid off, with the winery doubling its sales in recent years and increasing production by 25%. Atibaia now exports to ten international markets, further establishing its reputation as a boutique winery of distinction.

Expanding horizons

In addition to its wine production, Atibaia has diversified its offerings. The summer of 2022 saw the launch of a restaurant experience concept, pairing their wines with selected local products. This venture was a resounding success, turning Atibaia into a destination in Batroun. Indeed, plans include adding Atibaia artisanal olive oil to the portfolio.

Atibaia’s distinguished wines

Atibaia’s current selection includes three still wines: red, white and rosé. The winery produces 15,000 bottles of red, 8,000 bottles of white and 3,500 bottles of rosé annually. Each wine is crafted with a blend of different grape varieties, adhering to the winery’s philosophy of quality over quantity.

Acclaimed red wines

The red wine, a blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, has garnered acclaim, with ratings of 91 for the 2011 vintage, 92 for the 2012 vintage and 90+ for the 2014 vintage from the Wine Advocate. The 2014 vintage also received a gold medal at Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada, while the 2016 vintage was awarded Best of Show and Grand Gold.

Elegant white wines

Atibaia’s white wine, a blend of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Viognier, is equally impressive. Manually harvested and meticulously selected, this wine is an invitation to appreciate the delicate balance of fruity, floral, buttery and woody notes that nature provides.
